I decided to really give the 5900XT a workout this week, and see what
it could actually do - and live - OC'd.

The card is a Leadtek A350 with the 2.2ns memory

I tried three drivers - Starstorm's 5303 and 5672, and the nvidia
6171.

I used 3DMark03 Professional, all settings to default.

test rig : a7n8x dlx rev 2.0 / barton 2500 oc'd to 3200 / mushkin
level 1 2x512mb pc3200 in dual channel / XPSP1 / Cheetah X15 HDD

after much testing (read that - 2 days) the 56.72 Starstorm XQ was the
best overall driver. Here are the scores :

5672 stock = 5062
5672 auto = 5418
5672 390/800 = 5281
5672 390/850 = 5386
5672 390/880 = 5409
5672 390/900 = 5448
5672 390/920 = 5488
5672 390/950 = 5524
5672 390/975 = 5555
5672 450/975 = 6003
5672 460/975 = no joy

the best living in all games OC was :
5672 420/975 = 5714

for the best results in OCing, raise the memory till it blows up, then
back down to the last solid number. Then raise the clock till it blows
up, and back it down to a stable number.

how does this compare to your findings on similar rigs?

What did all that testing/overclocking get you in fps increases in your
favorite games? IMO, those numbers mean nothing unless you also include
some b4/after framerate comparisons in your favorite games. Which is of
course is the only reason for overclocking, right?

I picked up 13fps in Halo.

OK, fair enough.
From what to what?

If it was something like 100 to 113, does it really matter?
If it was 30 to 43 somewhat helpful.

Please put it into context.
