overclocking will not work

So i just recently built a new gaming/work rig and since i'm having problems and i'm not really good with computers i figured i'd come here. Every time i overclock my cpu or gpu it says "overclocked settings did not work, reverting back to defaults". like say i go to overclock my cpu, i overclock it just a little bit and then when it does the restart it says that reverting back to defaults thing.

Specs:
ryzen 7 1800x
evga 1080ti sc2 gaming
16gb of ddr4 corsair vengence lpx
motherboard is an msi x370 gaming pro
psu is a corsair cx750

i suppose it would also be worth noting that i use a 1440p 60hz monitor, and my motherboard is using the same bios it came with out of the box

Ok... Not a Ryzen guy, but I have read that people should update their bios when using Ryzen chips because a lot of the bios they came with are a little wonky... Might try to flash the bios...

So far all i've tried is going from 3.7ghz to 3.8ghz for my cpu. the same goes for my gpu, i have only tried very small overclocking.

Ok... Not a Ryzen guy, but I have read that people should update their bios when using Ryzen chips because a lot of the bios they came with are a little wonky... Might try to flash the bios...

As he said, flash to the latest bios then try again.
