overclocking with stock cooler

so ive recently received my 8320 and i was wondering if i could overclock to 4.0-4.2ghz without voltage change on stock cooler. i will eventually get after market hsf but cant afford it right now.

not a good idea, stock coolers are designed to with low tolerances in mind.
if its a 95w cpu you get about 100w cooler. so theres no headroom to run an oc.

even without voltage change so temps wouldnt increase

Processor will work harder overclocked, so even if you don't change the voltage (which would probably cause stability issues) it will generate more heat. If you want to try it just make sure to have a CPU temp monitor open!

yeh ive got prime95 and hwmonitor so ill do a small OC and see how it goes. ill let you know the temps if to high or even too low. thanks for your help

you will be lucky to add 100mhz before your temps max out... use real temp as that will tell you how close you are to the cpu's max temp.
