I am trying to overclock with a GIGABYTE Z97n-WIFI Motherboard and an Intel G3258 A.E. Costa Rica Processor. The BIOS is version F5 and I am currently using the stock cooler.
In the bios I am not able to gain access to any of the functions for manual editing. Everything comes set to auto out of the box and I cannot seem to switch them, no matter how many times I click or my pressing the enter key. The only changes I am able to make seem to be for presets for configurations I do not have i.e. i7 4770, etc. I was able to disable turbo boost technology which I did.
SOLUTION: It was necessary to go into 'Smart Tweak Mode' instead of using classic mode which I was using before to enable/disable the setting before being able to change them in classic mode.
Now I am very new to overclocking so bare with me here. So when we overclock are we mainly looking at; voltage, temps and your ratios?
Factory set up for frequency was 100 x 32 to equal 3.2 Ghz and with the only modification really being disabling Turbo Boost. After about 19 mins with AIDA64 stress test MAX TEMP on core #0 = 60 c, core #1 = 57 c
Power: ~30-31.5 watts
First edit, I changed the clock ratio to 36 to equal 3.6 Ghz. And then with turbo boost disabled ran stress test for about 15 mins MAX TEMP on core #0 = 61 c, core #1 = 58 c
Second edit, up'd clock ratio to 38 for 3.8 GHz. Turbo Boost disabled. After 15 mins with AIDA MAX TEMP on core #0 = 62 c, core #1 = 59 c
Power: ~33.6-35.5 watts
3.8 GHz at 0.997 V-Core (Turbo Disabled) Posts, after about 20+ minutes of running AIDA stress test. PC re-booted.
Next, 3.8GHz
1.010 Vcore
Next, 3.8 GHz
1.020 Vcore
Now I am a little lost on the voltage side of things. There are a tons of different options as you can see below. Which ones are most important? I would like to get it off the auto setting.
Next overclocked to 4.2 GHz
Max temps hit around 68-69 celcius. Blue screened once after a couple hours of gaming, etc.
Set;
V-Core 1.175
RING 1.175
BLCK 100.00
UNCORE 4.2 GHz
Multiplier 42 (4.2 GHz)
System Agent: 0, untouched
I/O Analog: 0, untouched
I/O Digital: 0, untouched
Memory: untouched.
