Is ATITOOLS 0.26 any good for overclocking a x1900gt. (Never oc'ed an ATI b4. Done nVIDIA but not ATI). Im running stock cooling right now but I'm thinking of getting a zalman to try and cool it down.
I use it with my Connect3D X1900GT. I don't have any additional cooling. If I bump up the fan speed (also using ATITool) I can push the core to about 640MHz without getting errors in the artifact scan (tested for about 30 minutes. Much higher than that and I tend to get errors within 20-30s.
The settings I use most of the time are relatively modest, 600MHz core 720MHz mem. At those settings and with the fan turned up my GPU temp tends to be 52-55C under load.

Atitool is a great oc program. USE IT. When i had my 1900xtx the only thing i used was atitool. I could adjust fan speeds, watch temperatures, oc, increase the voltages, etc. When you get the Zalman cooler you will be able to oc little bit more. Watch temps and Scan for Artifacts.
ATI Tool will allow you to set up a temp/RPM table for the best cooling. Remember that the dual slot rear exaust design of the GPU cooler makes a big difference in keeping your case temps low. If you remove the OEM cooler for a Zalman, then you'll loose the benfits of this feature, and your case temps will rise sharply during gaming, due to hot GPU air being recirculated in the case. 8)
