After applying the actual thermal paste, I've realised that the cpu temperature was still super high (60C when idle, and reaches 100 with some stuff running). I am almost certain I did everything right, so should I clean the whole cpu with alcohol and try again?

CPU: E8400
TDP: 65w

System specs plz. And what cooling are you using?
Whole list:

CPU: Intel E8400
CPU cooler: Intel stock cooler
Motherboard: Intel DG43NB
RAM: 4gb (not sure of the speed, would need to check) DDR2
Storage: 300ish gb HDD and 500gb SSD
PSU: 380w Antec PSU, 80+ bronze
GPU: Gt 710 - Installed at the same time then the CPU

If you removed Intel stock cooler, then push pins need to be reset, before you can install it again.
If you don't do that, this results in poor contact between cpu and the cooler and elevated temperatures.

I don't mean to sound rude, but you have an older system. Is there a lot of dust in the cooling fan, and case fans, and inside the case in general?
There's a tiny bit, but I doubt there's enough to be an issue. There used to be a lot more, and there was no heat issue.
You could have contact but not having the fan snapped in properly may cause poor conductivity of heat.
I guess I will try it again, and make sure everything is well done.

Thanks
