Overheating due to fan failure

For some unknown reason my liquid cooling unit over CPU stopped while i was in game and my CPU overheated, it got thermal throttled. I could see decrease in game performance ( freezing and fps drop ) however for several minutes I couldn't figure out what happened. Finally I looked at CPU and realized the light indicating that the cooling unit was on was off. I immediately shut the computer off and fixed the issue but the CPU was overheated and game was still running for several minutes. It's been several days since this happened and no problem as of yet, but I still couldn't think of wondering if any damage to CPU had been and done and if yes what's the best way to diagnose it. Please help!

If the CPU didn't shut down by itself, it probably didn't get dangerous enough.

But you should replace that CPU cooler if it has a tendency to turn off.
