I have a AMF FX-9590 on a MSI 990FXA-GD80 V2, thermaltake 850 power supply, 32gb of ddr3 ram, an fx watercooler in a push pull 140mm, in an raid max Augusta. I built it November 16 of 2013. And never had a problem with it until just this week. It sat for almost 8 months with no use, and I started using it recently and it is getting hot quick, I mean idle is roughly 80f. And under heavy load is about 180f. It used to be about 100f under heavy load. And it was over clocked then to 5.5ghz but now it sits at its base 4.7ghz. I've heard stuff about thermal paste drying over time, and I was wondering it that was the reason, or if I have a bigger issue.

Most on this forum use Celsius. 80f / 26c is a very reasonable idle temperature, considering your CPU is producing heat and cannot be below room temperature. However, 180f / 82c is definitely too hot for that chip.

There are a few things that could be happening. Your cooler's pump could have an air bubble in it, or it could have lost liquid. Your thermal paste could have dried out, which can be fixed by remounting the waterblock with fresh paste. You may have dust buildup in the radiator, or a pump failure, or a fan failure, or something may have come unplugged. It's impossible to say without having the PC in front of me; you're going to have to do some troubleshooting and isolate where the problem is.

So, the radiator is completely cleaned, both fans and pump are running, at idle the fans are around 600, and the pump is about 3100rpm. The pump is slightly higher than the radiator, so if I had an air bubbles or the water evaporated, I would have a lot more issues at the moment. I haven't cheked the thermal paste yet, but I will soon, and replace it with articles mx-4.

So I went through and changed the changed the thermal paste to article mx 4 and didon't about a pea size blob. Now running at overstock it sits about 50c and at normal speeds of up to 5ghz it runs 38c so I think it was the thermal paste, I noticed it looked a little thick from what was on there before and was powdery. So I guess it dried out
