Overheating problem

I have a HP DV5000 Pavilion with XP. Lately I have a problem with the laptop shutting down because of a temperature issue. I have CPUcool installed and running a log file. Whenever the computer shuts down Temp Sens 1 is at 91C. It will be at 0C until the last 3 seconds of the log. CPU 1 temp is between 48C and 65C. I already installed new heat sink compound. Is Temp Sens 1 reading from the CPU, motherboard? etc?

Where they put sensors is an age old question and the only people that know is the engineers who designed the boards. When you put new paste on did you make sure you cleaned all the dust out of the fans and heatsink also did you make sure you got good coverage on the chip. Also remember too much thermal paste can be bad too its got to be just right to work.

Yes, I cleaned the entry and exit ports for the fan, the heat sink, and fan. I have also flashed the bios and reinstalled and updated windows drivers. I should have included the following info: AMD Turion 64 1.8G and HP 30AE Rev 49.63 mobo.

I have started running Prime95 and the computer shutdown after 2 minutes. Now I am running Prime95 again and computer has been running for 35 minutes. (Using CPU Stress option).

Does the heat sink compound need to be burned in to setup properly?
