I have a Radeon XFX 7870 DD Graphics Card (which I bought about two years ago when I built my PC) and over the last few months if I try to play any games that are at all graphically intensive my GPU overheats which it didn't used to do. For example, I've been playing Cities:Skylines recently and it heats up between 90-95C when at 1080p at medium settings, I've been managing to play it at 720p at low settings but even then it heats up to about 75C which I feel is still too high.

My CPU and mainboard temperatures are fine, it's only the graphics card that's overheating. I cleaned my entire PC through thinking it could be a dust problem but that didn't help at all. My case only has one fan at the bottom front so I wasn't sure if that's the issue and I need to get one or two more case fans.

Is it that my case needs more fans? Is there a problem with my graphics card or do I just need a new one? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Solution
Let's try something first:

Open your AMD catalyst center and I believe it's under AMD overdrive, or maybe under the gaming tab (sorry it has been a while since I last did this and had a Radeon card in my system). Under there will be options to increase fan speed, you may need to select manual to override auto controls. Try increasing the fan speeds as much as you want, or can. This may help disperse some heat but then it needs to get out of the case so to answer the second question, yes adding more fans is always a good thing. More fans = better air flow.

Best of luck!

Solution
the xfx dd design loves to get hot point a fan directly at the middle of the taop of the gpu its the side opposite of the fans and see how much it drops your temps also make sure both fans are spinning if this does not really help then its change thermal paste time.

I would recommend replacing the thermal paste (just a thin layer) and re-seating the cooler. Make sure there's not much dust and that the case airflow is good (not much hot air trapped inside).
