Hello Everyone,

For quite a while Ive been struggling with various PC upgrades.
After upgrading to SSD + new graphic card the time has some for CPU upgrade (boost?)
Please let me know what you think:

My specs:
2n1gwnb.png

(if the picture fails)
i5 750 lynnfield @ 2.67 GHZ
8Gigs of memory
GTX 760 - MSI Twin Razr 2gb version
GA-H55M-S2H
500W power supply

With the GPU upgrade lately I have been having a blast.. until games like Far Cry 4, which stutter on any given graphic option (low-ultra/nvidia).

I did some research and found out it will most likely be my CPU bottlenecking the GPU.

From what I see I have 2 options:
1. Buy a powerful cooler (Cooler Master Hyper 212+ EVO e.g.) and overlock my i5 750 to upwards of 3.8 GHZ
I tried intelburn test with my stock cooler, but i had to shut that project down immediately due to my cores reaching too high temperatures.

- Do you think that the performance boost from overclock to 3.8 would be enough to eliminate the stuttering I'm currently experiencing?
- I found out somewhere that my current (rather low end) Mobo is only able to handle 3.8 GHZ so I would not push it upwards of 4.0 GHZ.
- Is it correct that 3.8ghz would be the maximum power I would be able to get from this setup?

(there are many OC guides so I will then simply follow once specifically for i5 750)

2. Buy something along the lines of Intel Core i5-4690K
- I would opt for this "overkill" to avoid having to upgrade CPu for another 5-6 years :)
- but that would also mean Power Supply + Motherboard upgrade as well.

I know that most of you will probably recommend going for option 2, but that is rather expensive in comparison and I would like to exhaust option 1 before going there.

I'm sorry for the wall of text. Any reply would be much appreciated!

Cheers,
- Jistly

Solution
Buy the i5 4690K, 4th gen i5s will run circles around any overclocked 1st gen i5s and i7s.

4690K will last another 4 years so it's well worth the upgrade.
Hello TechyInAZ,

Thanks, I expected as much :-/ However, for the time being I would like to consider the OC on the i5-750 with the hyper 212 evo cooler.
Do you think that OCing would solve my current FPS issues in games like FC 4?

I'll most likely go for the i5 4690K in a while, but OC seems like a good low-budget option for the time being. (+ the cooler could be used for the new CPU anyhow)

alrighty then. strange that the 750 isnt fast enough for farcry 4. my 3570k is somewhere around 65% at 55 fps with medium settings.
your setup should manage playable framerates imo.
as far as i know the evo supports both sockets, so try to overclock your 750 first.
