Just starting out in Overwatch and wondering where to begin with everything? No worries, I'll show you how to get some practice in so you can jump into the real action without looking like a complete noob.
Step 1)Play the tutorial.
Even if you have played games like Overwatch before, check out the tutorial to start with. It'll show you how to use all the abilities of soldier 76, one of the more basic heroes you can play.Even if you only do this step, at least you'll know how to play one hero before you jump into a match.
Step 2)Look through the heroes available and choose at least one from each category to learn.
There are four types of heroes in Overwatch. Offensive, Defensive, tank, and support. You should know how to use at least one hero from each of the categories, so that you have options to play what your team needs in a real match. Once you've decided which heroes to look closer at, take them into a game vs the AI rather than jumping right into quick play with them to start.
Step 3)Learn the maps and the game modes.
Each map has a specific game mode tied to it, and you're going to need to learn them all to really excel. Know where the choke points are, the health packs, and the objectives you need to take or defend. This is what separates the good from the bad really, as a bad player only knows the map well enough to keep throwing himself into the obvious and well defended route, without thinking to go around their defenses and get in behind them.
Once you've got the basics of a few heroes down, and know how to play the different game modes, jump into the real action with quick play and see how you do! Don't be afraid to branch out and try new heroes other than the few you first familiarized yourself with either, different heroes are better for different situations, and knowing which to pick can be your key to success if you also know how to use them all.
