Hi

I have a sound blaster Z. which until yesterday worked perfectly.

I bought at started playing Overwatch and after a while i wanted to test its Dolby Atmos for headphones so I enabled it in the game and followed the instruction. which told me to disable all other "hardware surround" so i turned off SBX pro studio. and it sound very nice good positional and all

However at the end of one match the sound acted weird. it turned into a mono sound and all bass was gone from it. i thought oh well i then disabled Dolby atmos but the fault persisted.

and it also persisted through reboots, power off and driver re installation.

The problem is all sound is now i Mono. although it is still played in both speakers on my headset it is in mono and the more you increase the surround setting in SBX pro the weirder the sound gets.

Have anyone ever experienced anything like this ?? I do not believe my SBz to be broken. but i cant get it to work by using any of the normal means short of reinstalling windows completely but that is not a possibility.

regards

1| Can you please pass on your full system's specs inclusive of your OS and connected peripherals+audio equipment?
2| If you're on Windows 10, you'd be best served by disabling automatic device driver updates prior to uninstalling and reinstalling your sound card drivers. If under Windows 10, you may also want to try a system restore prior to when the issue cropped up.
3| Just for the sake of clarity, by Mono you mean from one side of your audio, right?

Thank you for giving us a followup though you it'd be extremely helpful if you could answer the questions and ofc reveal the culprit and the subsequent solution you came across to alleviate your condition. It'd be helpful for the community and those who are on the same boat as you to learn of the solution.

The problem was that a wire had short circuited my headset in such a way that both speakers still worked however the sound channels got mixed together and was all playing from both speakers.
