I run one monitor at 2560x1080 (21:9) and a second monitor at 1920X1080 and playing Dragon Age Inquisition. If I OC my current 290 I can get 60 ish frames in doors with drops out doors but the cards really pushing the heat (80C-85C or more). Without --it runs 'ok' at the stock overclock but I'd like to run a bit smoother. So my question is where should I invest some xmas money

1) sell my 290, spend money and get a 290x (if so, is the gains form a 8 GB 290x good cause of the high resolution im running at?)
2) buy another 290, run in xfire
3) sell 290, buy a 970 since I can OC it better and its a bit more future proof
4) wait for the 300 series since from what I read --no-- video cards run 2560xYYYY very well now a days?

Solution
if you already have a 290 then crossfire it .... but i personaly suggest you to wait for r9 300 series .. it will be out soon... there will be price drops for the 290 too ;)

i think wait for 300 series. I have a r9 290 too, and i have ~60. I have a sapphire r9 290 tri-x. I don't think u should buy a 970. Wait for 300 series. Nvidia vs AMD - nvidia doesn't have chanses

a single 970 can run 2560x1440p on its own without maxed details, sli if you want more fps out of the setup, 4k resolution is the hard part.

But I agree with the above, 970 isn't THAT big of an upgrade over 290, wait for what 300's has in store before buying.
