my brother bought a PC 2 weeks ago, I chose the parts and amongst them P35-DS3
gonna go to work soon so it will be quick
on the plus side:
+ great manual
+ easy to use bios
+ stable (his E4300 is @ 2.4 and undervolted from 1.325 to 1.225)
+ has RAID (although not Intel's but proprietary Gigabyte RAID controller)
+ price
+ 6 phase voltage regulator
+ good design
cons:
- stupid naming scheme in BIOS, instead of setting 1.9V for RAM you set +.1 (since 1.8 is standard spec). same applies to FSB, PCI-E. CPU voltage is controlled in traditional way
- lack of ICH9R (but, as mentioned above, you still can use RAID)
- lacks 2 SATA ports from DS3R (has 6 of them although photo on one of Gigabyte's sites suggests it has 8 of them - photos on polish and english sites are different)
--- only 2 of the USB ports are USB 2.0
--- there are ONLY 2 !! SATA cables in the box and no MOLEX->SATA power adapters whatsover...
the DS3R in my country was only like 4$ more so I'd go for it. Unfortunately, was out of stock at time of purchase
