Has anyone overclocked a P4 1.5 (socket 423) on an Asus P4T motherboard with RDRAM (800)??

IF so, what did you do? Use 1066 RAM? Add a fan/cooler?
Did you have to change the default setting on the motherboard from "jumperfree" to "jumper"?

If not, what do you experts suggest?
Overclock or get a P4 2.0 processor?

Thankyou for your input.

i suggest a new cpu and mobo ifyou want to overclock
socket 423 willamettes werent really good at overclocking
maybe you can get 1.6ghz or so, but not major overclocks such as the new northwood overclocks

what is your cpu temperature under max load?
you shouldnt have to change from jumperfree to jumper beacuse with jumperfree its all in the bios, jumper you have to adjust dip switches and such on the motherboard

**make sure you know how to reset CMOS**

Thankyou for your input.
I think I understand the jumperfree mode, but was just wondering if in order to overclock, one would have to override the system manually.
I am basically trying to see if I can get anymore speed out of the system without buying any components.

reset CMOS...please explain. What does that do?
Thanks!

yes you go into the bios, look for cpu frequency and right now it will say 100(mhz)
what you wnt to do is go to that option, and press enter and change the value a couple of mhz higher to affect the overall speed of the system.

i doubt you have pci/agp bus locking, so maybe there will be anohter number next to the cpu frequency so right now it should probably say 100/33 or 100:33

you will notice that when you raise the cpu frequency, the second number will go up as well proportionally
it is best to not have this number go over 38 or so as most pci devices have problems after that (some super sensitive ones have problems before that as well, but not often)

reseting the CMOS comes in when you overclock too far and the computer refuses to post (startup). then you need to change a jumper on the motherboard to reset the CMOS to make it go back go factory bios settings and in doing so the computer will post (as its at the default speeds and everything)
