P4 2.53 shim?

I read in a post something about a shim when installing the retail version P4 2.53. The comments indicated that failure to install it properly could endanget the P4 CPU.
I had no problem with a 1.8a but there was no shim ... just heat paste.
Please comment on installation of a P4 retail 2.53. What if anything is different than dropping in a chip, adding heat paste and securing the fan? Any additional concerns or cautions?

Thanks in advance.

I installed my P4 2.4B and there's no need for a shim. The HSF locking mechanism on the mobo is all you need.

The P4 has an Integrated Heat Spreader, which is there for several reasons including protecting the core from rocking a cooler, which is what a shim would do. So a shim isn't needed.

I have a retail 1.8a and it didnt come with "heat paste". If you buy from a place that sells you retail 1.8a's w/ heat paste, then getting a 2.53 with a shim might not be out of the question.

Ok...Thanks Crashman. So when I open the box, what should I expect?
Place CPU on motherboard GA-8iexp
/ Add Artic Silver
/ Add Heat Spreader
/ Add Artic Silver
/ Add Fan ?

IF I wait for the November Price drop ... Is the install of the P4 2.8 any different?

All you've gotta do is place HSF on CPU and you're done. Yo can take the thermal pad off and replace it with AS if you want.
