Im waiting for my ASUS mobo to come back on RMA so i decided to OC this cheap board i have.

i have a water cooling system which i know to be in perfect working order, my temp sensor through Speedfan says my cpu is idling at 75*C which i know is not right because ive examined the cpu block when under load and its about 54*C with the OC on.

my specs are in my sig, my qustion is tho.

even tho my bios says my cpu is @ ~34*C speedfan reads over 80*C when im gaming and it causes it to blue screen. since Speedfan is reading temps that could be damaging to the hardware, is the computer restarting because speedfan is telling it to?

before anyone asks, my OC is stable prime95 and superpi.

I guess I'm a little confused on your post... your BIOS says 34 at idle? That sounds right for a good watercooler. But what does the BIOS say after you've had it under load a while? Speedfan should be reading the same temp as in the BIOS. Now Speedfan always seems to have some strange temps that are often out of sight, which I just ignore. Are you sure you are taking the correct Speedfan temp when you say it's telling you your CPU is running at those temps? It'll be the one that spikes quickly once you put the CPU under load.

The 630 is definitely one of the hottest running chips out there today, and with the overvolt you have that's going to build up an enormous amount of heat. I wouldn't trust the waterblock temp, since internally, the CPU will have much higher temps.

I have a 630 at 3.4 GHz on stock voltage and stock intel cooler and it runs in the mid 60's under load. I have a new cooler coming 'cause that's just too hot for comfort!

well its just a weird situation.

ive checked my cpu with a temp gauge when its running and my load temps are fine, my idle temps are fine.

i can reach in and feel the water block on the cpu and its a lil warmer than room temp.

so i KNOW that my temps are good by physically checking them.

my question is that if the temp sensor on the motherboard is broken, (reading higher than the actual cpu temp) would that cuase the motherboard to restart the computer?

bios reads 34*C, load windows and speedfan reads 74*C.

I don't think it would restart, and even if that's what the BIOS temp monitoring wanted to do, you should be able to stop that behavior by selecting "ignore" under CPU temp in the hardware monitor section.

Are you sure your waterblock is making good contact with the CPU slug? If not, it won't be transferring the heat into the block effectively so it may feel cool while the CPU is literally burning up!

that happened to me once... I gave the temp sensor a good blow and it was fine. I dont know if this is your problem, but its a quick fix, and if it doesnt work, your no worse off

My 630 is also running at 3.4. It has never gotten above 50C under full load (stock cooler). Not sure about you... but I am using AS 5.
