Hi ,I got my new system the other day ,upgraded from a p3 450 .New system :
Pentium 4 1.7Ghz
512MB RDRAM
Asus P4T motherboard
Geforce 2 titanium
Aopen HX 45A case
I am using the Asus software for monitoring my CPU an motherboard temp and I'm surprised at how hot it gets .When the comp is idle I get about 40C-42C during the day (I live in a hot area) and about 37C-39C at night .Under load it commonly reaches 48C ,the highest I have sen it is 54C .Are these temperatures normal or a reason to be concerned ?
My monitoring software is saying the power supply and CPU fans are both running below threshold but I opened the case and they seem to be running fine .The additional front case fan I installed is monitored correctly I wonder if installing a new fan has caused the monitoring software to lose the ability to monitor the cpu and p/supply fans ??A friend told me the P4 is built to underclock itself so to speak and save itself from a meltdown ,is this right ?I was playing Unreal Tournament ,a very CPU intensive game when on 2 occasions the computer just rebooted ,would this be a heat problem ?I'd appreciate any advice becaue I have very little experience in this area ,my old computer was so impotent heat was never an issue
