Should I buy a P4 or Athlon board? I'm looking at a 2800+ Athlon but
have heard that the eqivalent P4 is faster because of the FSB. What do
you reckon?

What are you going to do with it? If money is no problem, buy the P4.

I reckon you could look at some of the reviews that compare the 2 cpu's
and make up your own mind. Personally, I'd get an Athlon 2500+ and clock
it to a 3200+ by setting the FSB to 200MHz, and save about $80 compared to
the P4.

2800+ or 3000+ is the way to go. You get more bang for the $. Prices are
droping.

Wes,

Thanks for taking the time to explain all the FSB stuff on your web site.
It was quite an education.

The P4 leads most benchmarks.

I think the FX51 or FX53 will blow away most P4s. Athlons appear to lead
most reviews in benchmark scores against "equivalent" P4s, except for video
editing.

Mostly, it depends on your budget and personal preferences. I just went for
a dual Opteron system, and the benchmarks blow away any of the latest
high-power single CPU systems...
