P4P800-E Deluxe: BIOS setting 'Compatible Mode'

Hi

Because I've got a dual-booting System (WinXP & Win98) I've set the BIOS
Main->IDE Configuration->Onboard IDE Operate Mode
to 'Compatible Mode'.
Otherwise I can't boot Win98.

Does the 'Compatible Mode' reduces the performance if I'm working with
WinXP?
