Installed the Windows BIOS updater from the CD. Downloaded the updated
Updater. Went and got 1003 BIOS from website and installed it. First boot it
claimed that overclocking had failed. So I went into BIOS and turned off all
the smarts. Then XP pro fails to boot, gets part way in and reboots. Every
time. Yes I did reset the CMOS values both during the update and in the BIOS
after the first failure.

Any ideas, seen the same problem?

Thanks for all and any help.

Not sure if it's relevant but when I updated the BIOS on my board P5AD2
it did the same thing.
I recreated the RAID 0 setup and then it started up fine.

Andy,
I also use the RAID 0 functions. Did you loose the array contents? Thanks
for the info, I'll try and report back.

Andy,
Fired it up and went into both RAID config screens available during POST. I
did not remove and replace the arrays but they were both in there and looked
to be correctly configured. Still it gets to the XP screen and almost
instantly (1-2secs) reboots.

I may attempt to re-flash 1002 ?

Thanks for the help

Barry

It must vary, the 1008 BIOS update dis mess the RAID settings on mine,
but the latest 1009 did not.

I decided to return to the original BIOS version. Asus has pulled 1002 from
their website, however it is on their ftp site. I re-flashed 1002 using the
dos based flash utility. And guess what....it all sprang back to life.

Looks like 1003 may have a problem, if only with ref to my setup.

Oh well, I'll stick with 1002 for a while. Good news for me is no apparent
data lost so it was a cheap test.

Andy,
Where are you getting these versions of the BIOS and do they have a
reasonable version history with them?

Thanks

Barry

The ASUS website, your MB is different to mine as it has 'e' on the end
of the model name, so I suspect your BIOS is slightly different as well.

I'm not quite sure what the 'e' means. Anyway just my luck I suppose
for them to bring out a better board a fortnight after I brought there
'best' board.

Thanks Andy,
I didn't consider that it might be for the non "E" version. That clears it
up.
Systems still happy running 1002 and I'm happy as well.

Thanks again for the info

Barry

Andy,
The "E" supports 1066Mhz FSB assuming you want to spend $$$ on an P4 Extreme
processor.
