Hi just got my new PC, running a E6300 and a P5B vanilla MB with Kingston 800mhz 4-4-4-12 memory.

Could anyone give me a guide on what setting I should have in my bios. Not looking to over clock, but I don't like everything set to "Auto". Thanks

if you're not ocing than leave everything on auto except spd memory detection (go to bios and switch spd detection to manual or disabled then you'll be able to manually enter your ram's timings) and leave eist,c1e enabled, if you're not ocing there's no reason not to use these ops.

Hey there,

Would the bios for a P5B vanilla bought in late September 2006 handle an e4300 without an update?

Dodn't mean to hijack the thread but since its over two weeks old and did not want to open a new thread I'd thought I'd just ask.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Thanks for the reply Assman. :)

Well, the Asus P5B is still in the box but from what I can see on the board i'ts Rev. 1.03G.

From searches on the Google all I can find is people talking about the P5B Deluxe Rev. 1.03G bios.

that's revision, not bios version.
to support e4300 this board needs bios 0806 or newer (bios release date 11/09/2006). As of today, asus's site offers the latest 1202 bios.
try calling asus support, they should be able to tell what bios you got by s/n and board revision.

I talked to the reps.

I went ahead and put the system together and I received a CPU error code. Nonetheless, it let me install Windows and update Bios. At first I was really worried about just getting a black screen. It was kind of cool though the old bios OCed the system automatically to 2.2GHz. Th new bios set everything back to stock. Thanks again!!
