I love the specs on this mobo!

The two separate x16 slots should do really nice for my low end SLI config of 7600 gts.

However I have a concern with my Zalman CNP9500...

There are heat pipes that go from the south and northbridge up to a passive sink close to the CPU socket.

It appears that the design was for a HSF the forced air toward the mobo which would direct itself off the and out across the passive cooling heat pipe coolers.

The Zalman does not blow air toward the motherboard but rather, out the back of the case.

I'm looking for a good future Conroe supported mobo and this looked to be the champ due Conroe support to the x16 SLI solution but if I am going to encounter other issues...

Does anyone know of another board that works better or does this n/s bridge cooling work okay with my Zalman.

I'll, naturally have other fans but, I dont know the dependancy of the mobo facing fan.

No need to worry, the PSU at the top of your case will draw some air through the top radiator. Also, the manufacturers tend to factor in the possiblity of people utilising other cooling solutions.

I have your MB with and I water cooled the cpu.... the fins have no prob disipating heat without a fan.... my P4 is oced to 4.6....

Very good to know that it should work properly

The water cooling system, without any fan at all in that area, certainly reassures me.

Thanks for the feedback 😀

This Mobo is the front-runner for my money, so far!

Yes, I guess that would make sense.

I dont think that the passive cooling/heatpipes would need much, just something

I suppose the PSU would be the "just something"

the mobo comes with 2 fans that are designed to fit ontop of the heatsinks, for use with a passive or water cooler

also conroe is only supported with the "se" version or the mobo. zipzoomfly is the only place I know of to get it, and last i checked they were out of stock

I have access to a mobo with the layout to be used on the Conroe. The extra fans don't fit with a Zalman s9500 and the directions say specifically not to use with a HSF.

I have not seen an SE version of the board until you mentioned it.

Anandtech did a review of mobos for Conroe and mention that rev.2 (look closely at the picture) of the one here in question will work http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=2797&p=

In this article it is also stated that the passive sinks get REALLY hot.

I think I found my way around that passive HS problem with this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811133021

Now that is a big fan!

I bought the case and put it all together (sans CPU) and I have to say that if you are going to use the Zalman VGA heatpipe coolers, you will not have any PCI access (one is covered and the other puts the card really close to the fan thus, restricting air flow)

by zalman heatpipe coolers, do you mean some of their classic flower ones?

or are you referring to one if thier passive "sandwiches"

If you are using one of the flower ones, how does it work? what are your temps?? I am looking (and almos about to buy) the 900 cooler. I forget what letters go with it, but its the only 900 VGA cooler they have

If it is a passive one, what is your card?? what were your temps before and after? I would REALLY like to have a passive cooler on my video card. I'm working on silencing my system, and a vga cooler is just about the only part you can swap out with a panaflo or nexus fan.... I was looking at passive solutions, and I found two--

The Thermaltake Schooner= Its pretty ugly, in a cool sort of way. It has a heatsink that actually sticks outside the case, and is pretty big inside the case as well. The only problem with this is I will have little airflow back there, and It is in a VERY hot part of the room (it is right under my yamaha reciever, a dvd player, and a cable box, and right next to a tv. So I think the external heatsink wouldnt really help much

I was also looking at ASUS, who is the only company who has actually cooled a 7800gt... however their heatsink only comes with the card, and the card costs over five hundred dollars... I cant afford anything over a hundred, and If I could, I would say screw asus, buy the zalman passive watercooler, and OC my graphics card AND my CPU and have a completely silent case (if I did that i would throw in a passive psu, keep it outside the case, and laugh at how I can hear my monitor over my computer....

Anyways, sorry for rambling, This is my first post in a few hours and I had alot I had to make up for. (I'm addicted I tell you!! )

Anyways, I'm really not trying to hyjack the thread, I just wanted to know your cooler/card/temps..... 😀

If you want to oc a lot you should think of moving to water.... zalman 9500s dont cut the cake for 1.5 v and and an oc to 4.6.....

I have up volted the SB to 1.6 and the NB to 1.5 this generates quite a lot of heat the heat pipes (both of them work like a treat).

And yes they do come with those little attachment fans but I find that they are too small to make a difference. (I do have a lian li with 4 panflo fans)

This mb is quite nice if you want SLI and intel + a modest 4.6 oc.

If SLI isnt your thing look at a 955x, 965x or 975x mb. (I would prefer a 7900GTX over a 7600GT in SLI any day).

I was refering to the 900 active cooler with the heatpipes not the passive one.

Unfortunatly, I can't give any before or after temps as I havn't yet built the PC. I'm waitng on the Mobo/Conroe to build it.

My current build was a 478 3.4 with an x850xt pe until the PSU took out my mobo  (or maybe the mobo just went bad but I'm not trusting the PSU in any case).
