Hi guys,

Instead of jumping the gun and buying a new rig, I figured I would get some more life out of my P6T SE X58 board.

So, I ordered a X5670 from eBay for $25 and got it in the mail yesterday.

I installed the CPU, reset the CMOS and tried to fire up the PC with nothing. The fans spin the lights are on, but no output to monitor at all. Cannot even see the post.

So, I put my 920 back into the PC and fired it up and it booted right up.

Figured the issue was the BIOS version, so I updated it to the latest 0908 revision.

I then placed the X5670 back into the CPU and it fired up after the second boot.

Same thing happened again, the PC would not boot, no output at all after a few more boots. So, something is not allowing the PC to boot.

So, I placed the 920 back into the rig, fired it up, and placed everything at default, except for the RAM running at 800Mhz.

Finally, I placed the x5670 back into the board and attempted to fire up again. Now it doesn't matter what I do, I cannot get the board to boot up, or even get to the BIOS, when the X5670 is in the machine.

My thoughts are that the RAM might be too crappy to work with the Xeon. Does this make sense? The ram is V-Color DDR3 1333 Mhz.

I would have been OK with just running the X5670 at stock speeds, as it's still better than what I get out of the 920,but I just can't get it to boot at all.

I'm thinking of ordering some G.Skill, Kingston or another name brand memory sticks for it to see if it works, but I am hesitant to drop any more money into this old rig...

What do you guys think? Memory issue or did I get a bad X5670?

P.S. I did try and run the X5670 with 5, 4,3,2, and 1 stick of the RAM, but nothing let's me get into the BIOS.

P.P.S. I do know that people are running the x5670 in this board, from searching on Google. So, as far as I know, it should be working.

Giving up on this. Seems that my issue might be my crappy vColor RAM and/or the fact that the Xeon is really not going to work on anyone other one but the Deluxe version. I did find a few other people running the x5670 on my SE board, but with different RAM.

I believe it is time to retire my X58 and jump on the Ryzen bandwagon.

Thanks for everyone for chiming in.
