Hello, community.

I have an ASUS P7P55D-E Motherboard, as the title of this thread might suggest, and, according to the Compatibility Center website, from Microsoft, my motherboard is compatible with Windows 8, but it says "requires free download", and my pressing that link, it takes me to the driver section to that motherboard, which fine, except that ASUS does not, at least yet, support Windows 8, in their drivers. I did try Windows 7 drivers, but, then installers keep saying that the OS is not supported.

So, what do I do? Does this motherboard even need downloads from ASUS?

I will attempt to do so. Thanks for trying to give me some insight. I've heard that Windows 8 is almost like Linux, providing 99% of drivers. (So to speak.) Anyway, as I said, I'll try to contact ASUS itself or use the ASUS' Forums to get the answer I need. If any other member of Tom's Hardware Forums can give me any more information, I'd be grateful. Thank you.

I'm already upgraded. And I'm using the computer without any drivers installed (Except the ones, that, supposedly, Windows install by itself), except my Video Card driver (The only NOT associated with the motherboard, and that does indeed have a Windows 8 driver), and it's working fine. No freezes or weird ***. I've played a game (League of Legends) and works like it would work on Windows 7... so, I suppose it's all fine.

With Windows 8, I found the audio card does not work properly on P7P55D-E EVO and many of the motherboard's specialized functions are not accessible. My advice is to wait until Asus provides drivers for Windows 8.

BTW, irrespective of OS, this motherboard does not support the PCI-E 2.0 x8 on dual graphics cards (SLI), as promised in the specs and in the manual. The BIOS settings for controlling the speed of the chassis fans are not working either, meaning that the do not automatically increase/decrease the fan speed, in response to the system's temperatures.

Old thread, but to help others...

I'm still waiting for Asus to provide drivers for Windows 8 - a year now.
Everything else solved with workarounds but not the audio issues.

I have the same situation on P7P55D Deluxe MB. All the drivers work to play sound but...

.Microsoft driver works but prevents sleeping & no utility software/features.
.w7 driver from Asus: HD Deck s/w wont run in any compat mode yet driver installs/allows sleep.
.same using VIA VT2020S driver, except O/S compat error on 1st reboot only, 2nd goes as above.

Please write to ASUS, to complain about the lack of Windows 8 drivers. Unless a significant number of users complain, ASUS won't do anything about it.
