Let me start by clarifying that although my computer is a hackintosh, this is not a hackintosh related question - if it was I would consult TonyMacx86.com as I usually do. I am quite sure this is strictly a hardware issue, and am (in a strange way) pleased to enter this forum that I've often searched for solutions to problems I've had in the past. Anyways...
The other day I put my computer to sleep - I had ioQuake3 playing in OSX, paused it, and used a keyboard command to put the computer to sleep for the night. I came to it the next morning and pressed the spacebar to turn it back on. The fans kicked in, but there was no power to the monitor or my mouse (the mouse's LEDs weren't on). Since it's a hackintosh, this kind of wake from sleep behaviour isn't unusual (although it has been running perfectly in that respect for years) so I force powered off after a few minutes of waiting around and pressing keys on the keyboard. Now it won't turn back on. The Standby Power LED on the motherboard is on, but the power button seems to do nothing, and the MemOK! button does nothing as well. When I say nothing, I mean nothing. No fans, no lights other than SBP, nothing.
My specs:
Here's what I've done. When I say "nothing" below, I mean the power button doesn't do anything, and the memOK button doesn't do anything (at least once the case is open). No fans, no LEDs other than the Standby Power LED, which is on the whole time.
At this point all that was connected to the MB was the PSU, one RAM module, and the CPU.
========================================
My guess is that the motherboard is working okay, but the CPU is fried somehow. But would a fried CPU prevent the motherboard from blinking any lights and POST? And if it's the motherboard that is broken, why is the SB Power LED on?
I would really really appreciate somebody else's two cents on this one. I feel like I've really done every trick in the book to locate the problem, but I have... Nothing.
