I currently have an i5-2400 installed on the mobo(ASUS) referenced in title.
BIOS v: American Megatrends Inc. 1402 11/25/14
SMBIOS v: 2.7

I have an i7-3770 ordered and shipping out to me.

I've yet to do a CPU upgrade(I usually just do new builds) and I know that often you need to flash the bios when changing core components, however, the manual that came with the mobo specifically states it can use gen 2 or 3(sandy or ivy) so does that mean it is default ready for either or do I still need to flash? And if so, to what version that is confirmed stable?

Thank you in advance.

That's already the newest bios version. There's nothing you would need to do but swap cpus. You may need to reset cmos if it doesn't auto detect hardware changes.

That sounds great, lol.
Could you cite the source, so I can go over it. Not that I don't trust you, but I like to verify and cover all bases. But that makes me feel much more confident about this swap. It's silly, but the first time for doing anything, even simple things, can make me pretty anxious.
