My LGA 775 Asus motherboard died, so I upgraded the following components in my system:
-i5 2500k
-ASUS P8Z68-V
-8GB HyperX DDR3 1600
After installing it all, the system booted right up but I can't get anything out of my discrete GTX 285 video card which was working fine right before the mobo died. When it died, it couldn't keep power up, it would boot for a second, then die, then come back on it's own a second later.. do this a couple times then beep for memory errors. I had overclocked the system for some time and the RAM and North bridge were stupid hot.. I'm pretty sure I had just nuked them.
After I got all the new components in, I went to the bios, upgraded it to latest (0606 I think it is) then looked for settings related to the video.. it's currently set for PCIe/PCI in the settings.
When the computer is off.. I get "NO SIGNAL" message on my monitor.. when I plug in my monitor to the GTX 285 card, then start the PC, the message goes away instantly about no signal (as if there is now a signal), but I only get a black screen. I get normal POST beeps, then windows startup sounds but no video. If I try the 2nd DVI port on video card nothing.. If I then try the onboard video, works fine. When it's sitting at the logon screen.. I can plug the monitor in to all ports, I only get video on the onboard.
I've re-seated the card several times, both 6pin plugs are plugged in, and the card's fans are spinning. I don't get any weird beeps for memory error or any trouble at POST but it just seems like it's completely ignoring the fact that the video card is installed. Even in Win7 OS it doesn't show the card under device manager or anything.. very strange. If I try to install NVIDIA drivers I get "no compatible hardware found".
I'm starting to think that the board may just be defective as the video card has been working fine all along and I'd suspect a DOA board over a suddenly dead video card.
Anyone have any suggestions? I also tried setting the video options in BIOS to iGPU, multi monitor enabled.. same thing.. nothing seems to ever get routed through the discrete card under any circumstance but no sign of error/trouble either. The VGA light comes on for a 1/2 second on POST but never stays on.. which I think is correct behavior.
