Our computer had been running great, but we were installing a new Gigabyte GV-N660OC-2GD GeForce GTX660 NVIDIA 2048MB 2GB GDDR5 video card and now we lost all video and the DRAM LED is solid red. Other than attaching to the motherboard and power, we haven't done anything else.

Please help!

Solution

ok, you said you had reseated the ram. did you test each card individually in slot one? to see if one card is faulty

No. We tried removing the card and going back to the earlier configuration. Still no video and still the red light on the DRAM. I also tried reseating the RAM and confirmed all the other power cords were attached correctly.

the P8Z77-V has the (MEM-OK!) button doesnt it? its above the 24pin motherboard plug. its meant to be able to fix ram issues.

Here's what happened when I tried it...

It blinked about 3 times, then restarted the board and the DRAM LED blinked about 8-10 times slowly, then the CPU LED flashed once, then the DRAM LED blinked about 10 times more quickly, then the CPU light flashed once again, then the DRAM LED blinked about 12-20 times quickly, then went solid red.

Throughout all that, no video.

do you have more than one ram card?

That did it! We pulled the 2nd RAM card and pushed the DRAM button after turning it on. It worked!

Then we shut down and re-added the graphics card, turned on, and hit the DRAM button again. It worked!

We installed the graphics software and tested everything. Great.

Then we shut down and I re-installed the 2nd RAM card and, turned on, and hit the DRAM button again.

Everything worked perfectly.

Thanks for your brainstorming help!
