Hello I had some problems with the RAM I had bought with my new rig (Corsair Vengeance 2x4gb @ 1600mhz) and I hastily made a decision to purchase this pair as a replacement: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231585

My question is, will it work with my motherboard (p9x79 pro) and CPU (i7-3820 @ 3.6ghz)? I hadn't planned on clocking it to 2400 right away, but would the 1.65v be hard on my CPU or Mobo and should I return the sticks for a new pair? Price isn't that much of a concern right now.

Thanks!

oh sorry didnt notice that. Um intel still recommends using 1.5V ram. However I was running my ram at 1.65 until recently and everything is smooth. I heard that running the ram a 1.65 voids your warranty though.

Asus has 1.65v sticks listed on their QVL, just not this set. Should I go about contacting Intel and asking about warranty?

Intel Rep said 1.65v will void warranty. Hm. May have a dilemma here then. What is a good 2x4gb 1.5v RAM set for my Mobo/CPU?

Extreme performance 1.65V is safe for any DDR3 motherboard and CPU on the market as long as DRAM settings are configured properly. With compatible motherboard, CPU, and memory combinations, you can enable XMP Profile and all settings will be configured properly. You will find this common with ASUS motherboards and G.Skill RAM with a supported CPU.

The original RAM and motherboard in question is compatible, but it would depend on whether the CPU is capable of DDR3-2400. Only the i7-3930K CPU is fully capable of DDR3-2400, whereas not all i7-3820 CPUs are capable of DDR3-2400, so it depends on your specific CPU. If your specific CPU is not capable, you can still run the RAM at DDR3-2133 with lower timings, which is perform just as well as DDR3-2400.

The G.Skill Sniper series is a great memory kit, so you should be pleased with the performance result.

Thank you
