RE: packet loss

So I live in a dorm and the internet is actually good we get like 40 down and 40 up which is decent
for just a normal gamer. In games like csgo i get a constant 20-30 ping which is amazing but the packet loss is crazy at about 50%. I really want a fix or suggestion for this. Will ethernet/ being wired help? And talking with any expert on internet connections would be great thx! There is also 2 connections on my campus 5ghz and 2ghz I am connected to 5ghz ive been connected to both there are the same. I can only play at 1am till around 6am. If you are a internet expert plz get in contact with me.

"use continuous ping to determine if the problem is on the local network or outside.

ping your gateway for 10 - 15 minutes (for example ping 192.168.0.1 - t) if you see packet loss then your problem is on the internal network, easy fix.

if there is no packet loss on the internal network start pinging stuff on the outside, for example (ping 8.8.8.8 -t) if there is packet loss you will have to contact your ISP."

I did this and both of them were 0% loss its only in games like csgo i get packet loss

Better way to put this= is there packet loss over wired? or only wireless?

update i just pinged 8.8.8.8 and got 3% loss losing 12 packets after a time of 25 mins

Solution
A Packet is a piece of information that is part of a stream of information that is going between you and something else. If you are getting packet loss, the packet is being lost at some point between you and your destination.

If the packet is being lost over wireless, then yes wireless is the issue. If it is only effecting CSGO, then I highly doubt it is the wireless, because if it was wireless everything is going through that, everything should be suffering equally.

If only CSGO is the issue, for everyone there, then something all those connections have in common, but not in common with data that has no issues, is the problem.

Get what I am saying? Your issue is likely a routing issue through the internet, and that is not something...
How do you testing packet loss when you are stating you are getting 50% packetloss in csgo.

If it is only an issue with csgo, then it is likely not your problem or not fixable on your end. I can see several things that could be the problem that you have no control over. So I'd question your testing methodology to verify if it is indeed ONLY happening in csgo. If it isn't only happening there, then wired may help. There is probably interference issues across wireless(signal strength wouldn't tell you anything there). But in that case 5Ghz band should be fine.

Check to see if anyone else has issues with CSGO

I have a buddy living here too and he has the same problem with csgo and packet loss would you like me to test anything else tell me thx for the response. A easier question to answer to is there packet loss over wired? or only wireless?

I get what you are saying. Summary, since only csgo is having those problems that means it is something you cannot control and in that case you don't think wireless is the problem.

Thank you so much and here is your best solution award. I am going to test with wired later on a different computer and see if it helps. Thanks

update: yep it is probably a problem i cant fix just sent 3268 packets and only lost 8 at a 0% loss thx for the info
