Hello all

I have a ssd 120gb samsung 840 and a western digital blue 1TB
Should i have a pagefile (i have 8gb ram) and can i just disable it or is it required for gaming? If it is can i just move it to the Caviar Blue without having problems ?

With 8 gig's should be fine: However; this what I do. Set the Min and max to the same value, For my 8 and 16 gig Ram systems I use 1024 mbs which is way less than what uSoft defaults to which is typically upto 1.5 x ram. Will not miss 1 gig on SSD, But then you can set it to the HDD as Jim19 stated - But still set max and in both to 1024 mbs - I have always set max and min to same value Before the days of SSDs.

General comments: The only problem you will see with disabling it or setting to a low value like 1024 is that you may get a "out of Memory" error in which case you would just go in and bump it up a little - PS Ive yet to see the message. There are a few (probably very few) programs that will balk if NO page file is found weather they need it or Not.

Don't forget to turn Hibernation OFF - That can eat up about 6->8 gigs (hidden system file). Also Limit or disable Restore points. I think window will allocate upto 10% for this directory. Each restore point takes 300 MBs, so just 20 restore point = 6 gigs. I disable it, but instead you can limit the size to say 1.5 Gigs which will retain the latest 5 restore points.

I suppose it depends on how much you multi-task. The more programs you have open, the higher the chances you will need to have a pagefile especially if they tend to be RAM hungry programs like Photoshop.

With a 8GB of RAM I think 4GB on the WD HDD should be fine. That's a small amount of space on a 1TB HDD (which generally works out to be around 930GB when formatted). Do not put the pagefile on the SSD.

It won't give you any issues with gaming. What RetiredChief says about setting a minimum and maximum is good advice. There is overhead when the operating system has to resize the pagefile. If it were me I would set the pagefile on your hard drive to a min and max of 8 GB and disable it on the SSD.
