hey guy
as the title suggests! i am quite happy with my CM evo 212 as i got after recommendation from tomshardware! now i was trying to make my computer look more cooler! and i have a red/black theme! so i was wondering if it was possible to paint the cooler without touching the copper heatsinks? would the cooler lose it is ability to function as good ?

plus can you suggest any good red/black air cooling ? as good as the evo 212?

You just have to dettach the fan from the heatsink and spray it. Make sure you don't use too much paint and test the fan before reusing it. Too much paint can make the fan sticky and not spin properly.

My bad. Seems like I have the wrong concept of cooler (thanks). I was thinking of the whole thing, not only the heatsink. The heat conductivity would be barelly affected, so I would worry more about the fan itself.

In any case, if you have the tools for that, you don't 'have' to spend money on a good-looking cooler when you already have a really good one :)

i would imagine the cooling would be directly affected if you painted the fins... I mean you would pretty much be applying a light insulation to the fins. it may not be a huge difference but I would definitely check. the type of paint probably matters a lot too.

unless youre not talking about the fins and im just talking out my a**

It makes a huge difference as the above video demonstrates adding 9C or 20%. If you want a colored heatsink best to buy an anodized unit or one that comes with a coating with good heat transfer capability (unlike paint).

As far as "as good as the Hyper212", recognize that while it is an "excellent budget cooler", that doesn't make it an "excellent cooler" when compared with other units that fit into that category.

You can expect about 7-10C better cooling with the Phanteks

Fans OTOH, if you want to change those are done by using dye. There's a great How To on overclock.net
