Question Pairing an RTX 5080 with an i5-12600K CPU ?

I got a RTX 5080 at GTC (bought for $1,092) and I'm likely to sell it. But if I paired it with a i5-12600k for 1440p or 4k gaming, do you think the 12600k would hold it back compared to a newer CPU?
I'm just curious if anyone can share how the 12600k holds up with the powerful GPUs of today.

I think you got that backwards. 4k is typically less CPU demanding than 1440p.

Depends on the types of games that you play.

As a simple test, run some of YOUR games but reduce the resolution and quality settings.
That makes the gpu loaf.
If performance improves, then your cpu is strong enough to take advantage of a stronger graphics card.
If performance remains the same, you are more likely to be cpu limited.

Just try it. You can just wait around a while and then pick up a 14700k and basically be in the top 10 gaming CPUs again.

I think you will be fine, at 1440p, and more so a 4k. A 4090 is faster than a 5080, by about 12-13%. A 12600k isn't terribly slower than a 9800x3d, at 1440p, and gap closes at 4k.
