Pairing a 6950 with a 7950 or 7970?

So ive come to the decision that it's time to upgrade into crossfire. I have the 6950 from before and have ben looking at the new generation ones. After reading the FAQ i'm unsure of what to do. So let's say I pair the 6950 with a 7970, will the 7970 then lower it's performance down to a 6950? What would be the best for me to upgrade to?

Also, does it matter what manifactur it comes from such as XFX, MIS, Sapphire etc?

You can't CF the HD6950 with the HD7970. See this matrix for acceptable combos:

Honestly, yes you're just better off buying a single 7970. They're pretty cheap right now, too. You won't be using as much power, will produce less heat, and won't have to deal with microstuttering (if its an issue for you).

No can do either. Look at the charts sent earlier.

Fudoka711 is correct. Using a single HD7970 is the best solution for you at this time.

For CF to work, you must use a matching GPU processor family. The HD69XX and HD79XX are different families and they can't be used together in a CF configuration.

The charts show the compatible GPUs that will work together.
