is it possible to install gtx 1050 stormx into Dell Optiplex 7040 MT.
ive made some research about this GPU as it requires 75W power from the motherboard.
so i think it is possible since this 7040 MT comes with 250W power supply.
please advice.
my dell 7040 MT spec: i7 6700 3.4 ghz, 8gb ram, 250W psu, m.2 256gb ssd.

Solution

well u see, the recommended wattage for that GPU is actually 400w (300w at the very least if u had some high quality PSU) this was checked in an I5 system, now imagine u're now using an I7, 8 GB RAM...

but that is the problem with 7040 MT.
theres no standard power supply that can fit into the case.

i really can't recommend u getting a new GPU with a power supply that low.... anytime u hit that limit, u might cost ur PC, and that means even more money...

what do u mean. please explain. because as far as i know the gpu only consume 75W on the motherboard. Please help.

while the total will not reach 250W, a PSU actually had some sort of efficiency, let's say it's 80%, meaning if u pull the whole 250W, the PSU will need to pull an extra 20%, meaning it will pull out 300W, if ur PSU can't handle it, it might short-circuit and died, with the possibility of breaking your other components too

or at least, that's what i understand from reading in some blogs

Edit:
wattage listed on the unit is the maximum peak that the PSU can hold, not the stable wattage the PSU can provide...
also, just checked, the minimum wattage for that GPU is 300w, not 400w, sorry... (however, this is given by Nvidia as a precaution in case ur PSU is a low-mediocre quality)
for the PSU, actually, there's some PSU that can fit the case, it's just pretty hard to find
if the GPU can't fit the case, find a low profile version

u just broke my heart. anyway thanks for ur help and information.

i better break ur heart now, then break ur wallet and ur PC later on.... sorry if the answer isn't satisfying or isn't what u're hoping for...

btw, if u need a gaming friend, u can add my steam :)
