I need to enter an empty string to reset (unlock) the bios password on a laptop I bought off of ebay. The answer given on this site was to enter an empty string in the change password space. My question is: What is an empty string?

I think you are mistaken, they said to change it to blank so you don't have to put in a password next time. It is not the current bios password.
