Parallel Port Mp3 Player

Hey, I have an MpMan F20 Parallel port Mp3 Player....
I also have a parallel port printer. I cant connect both at the same time.... Can I "hot-swap" the Mp3 Player/Printer while the computer is turned on? By doing this, Will there be damage to the parallel port or mp3 player? Has anyone actually got a paralell port device they regularly hotswap?
I actually tried it a few times, and nothing happened to the port or the mp3 player. If damage doesnt happen once, does it mean it wont happen again?
Please reply if you hotswap a parallel port, or if you know whether this can cause damage or not.

I hot swap my two printers and nothing happens to them just as long as pins don't cross.

It won't hurt anything, but I know they sell switch boxes which are handy.
