Hi everyone,

I'd like to completely, and I mean completely, wipe out my two drives in my laptop - one ssd and one hdd. I stuck PartedMagic on a USB.

Here's my question: What is the best erase option to clear the hdd? I'm going to use internal for the ssd, but not sure what'd be best for the hdd?

Any opinions?

Why do you want to wipe those drives?
If you want to sell them and make any previous info unrecoverable, then use dban.
https://dban.org/
If you want to continue using them and reinstall everything, then simply delete all partitions before reinstall.

I have tried dban, both of the latest versions, and have received errors for both. I can get it to run, but dban couldn't find the drives in one instance, and in the other I received: cat: can't open '/proc/cmdline': No such file or directory

So I gave up on that, but I'm going to use PM for my ssd. I also read it works for hdds, too. It looks like theres a dban option in Parted Magic, but a lot of people recommend just doing the internal wipe using the ata secure erase function.

So I guess my question is: will using the internal ata secure erase feature on PM clear my hdd?

I know. I am using PM for my ssd, just the secure erase built in feature. My samsung ssd isn't supported by magician so parted magic should work fine.

With that being said, I'm trying to figure out (besides dban) what's the best method (prefer a feature in parted magic) to wipe that drive.

THanks.
