Hello..

First time posting here and hoping to find a solution for a very annoying problem I've been having with my PC and it's driving me crazy. I upgraded my PC a couple of months back, changing the motherboard, CPU, PSU, RAM, cooling fans, and the GPU. Ever since, I've been having this mysterious problem where the PC freezes out of nowhere and it becomes mostly unresponsive. For example I click on a Youtbe video and it won't respond. Or I try to open the Task Manager but trying to close a program won't actually close it. The Task Manager menu looks transparent. I can maximize or minimize a browser but not close it. Sometimes I get BSOD, others it's just no responsiveness and a hard reboot is the only way. Event Viewer show NO errors when it happens. Same as others with the same problem reported.

The problem comes at random times. Can be once a day, twice a day, or once every few days. Never happened while gaming but either during the night when the PC is idle or while just watching Youtube ....

Things I've tried : Doing a "fresh" install of Win 10 OS on a formatted SSD. In fact, I have two different SSDs. Updating the BIOS. Testing the RAM sticks, trying to test the GPU and CPU even though I don't really know too much about how to do this properly but used Unigine for the GPU and CPU-z.

I searched and searched online but I couldn't find any answers but I saw a few people with this problem. I'm very frustrated and mad and I'm afraid I'll end up just smashing the whole PC. Some say it's the motherboard. Some say it's the CPU. Some this....some that.... I was suspecting Armoury Crate. So stopped using it and the problem went away for a couple of weeks then it came back again w/o starting AC.

My components : Win 10 OS, Asus X570-Plus with the latest BIOS, Ryzen 5700G, Dell RTX 3060 ti (new). 32 GB RAM (3200 Mhz/ 4X8, two sticks are RGB, the other two are regular).

Any thoughts or suggestions ?

Thank you.

When posting a thread of troubleshooting nature, it's customary to include your full system's specs. Please list the specs to your build like so:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time.

Considering you performed an upgrade, a before and after would help shine some light on your predicament.

32 GB RAM (3200 Mhz/ 4X8, two sticks are RGB, the other two are regular).
So two ram kits? If they are corsair, might want to get back to us with PCB revision numbers.

For the sake of relevance, include the BIOS version instead of stating latest.

Doing a "fresh" install of Win 10 OS on a formatted SSD.
You're advised to recreate your bootable USB installer and installing the OS in offline mode, installing all relevant drivers while in offline mode but in an elevated command, i.e, Right click installer>Run as Administrator.

Moved thread from Windows 10 section to Systems section.

Mixed RAM = usual problem, try with one kit only.

I found out that over 35 yrs of building gaming and productivity PC's that Ram kits matched for your PC are best. Allowing for Overclocking for Optimal Gaming performance. I have found that trying your system with default setting at first then gradually overclocking your system Motherboard RAM GPU and CPU for optimal performance within in its allowed parameters for complete system stability. As long as you have adequate cooling in place for ALL of your hardware. Also an adequate PSU to power your system with enough headroom for future upgrades. I have used 1000+ Watt PSU's for my builds with NO power issues. Mixed RAM will create problems as it will ONLY perform at the slowest speed Of mixed RAM installed. Cheers I wish you success with a new RAM kit matched for your PC.

Thank you guys for the replies. I don't think it's the mixed RAM. Why I say this is because all 4 RAM sticks are Corsair and they all have the same speed. But what makes me even more sure is that I tried each pair separately. Like two similar pair at a time (w/o the other two) but the problem still occurred. So, I guess I can exclude the RAM ?

It doesn't matter that speeds are same. not even if same model if they didn't come as a factory matched kit.

For example I click on a Youtbe video and it won't respond.

Mouse problem?
battery low on wireless mouse?
wireless mouse signal interference?
mouse button worn out?

Try a different wired mouse.
The Task Manager menu looks transparent.

Did you install all the necessary drivers from motherboard manufacturer support site?
Check for unknown devices in Device Manager (yellow exclamation marks).
I'm very frustrated and mad and I'm afraid I'll end up just smashing the whole PC.
That's a whole different problem.
Either talk to a psychotherapist.
Or go ahead and smash your pc. All your pc problems will be gone. 😉
My components :
Win 10 OS,
Asus X570-Plus with the latest BIOS,
Ryzen 5700G,
Dell RTX 3060 ti (new).
32 GB RAM (3200 Mhz/ 4X8, two sticks are RGB, the other two are regular).
Ram could be a suspect. Run memtest86.
Try operating your pc with a single ram module.

GPU could be a suspect.
Remove discrete gpu and try with integrated gpu instead.

Thank you for the reply but again, I've already tried ONLY two IDENTICAL RAM sticks (kit) at a time. Tried each of the identical pair separately and still got the problem. So, I don't think it's a RAM issue.

Thank you very much for taking the time to write your reply.

I don't use a wireless mouse. I have two mice connected. Both wired.
Yes. All drives are updated from Asus site (specific to my mobo).
Again, I don't think the RAM is the problem as I tried each identical sticks at a time (first one pair alone, then took them out and tried the other pair (kit), same problem. Could I have one bad stick in each pair ? Maybe but what's the likelihood ? I will later try one stick at a time and see. I already did a memory test but I think I had all 4 sticks installed at the same time. Will try running just one at a time.

The GPU was new when I installed it however I know even new parts can be defective but I hope it's not the problem. I've done some testing (benchmarking) with Unigine and it seemed to work fine. I'll try running the PC with the Ryzen 5700G since it has its own gpu.

If all fails then what's left ? I'm not gonna let this problem piss me off every day.
