Hey guys,

Running into some issues with my partially new build. Just replaced the Mobo/CPU/RAM. While fresh installing Windows 10 there were a lot of crashes but was slowly able to get to desktop and seemed somewhat stable.

So what's the issue? At first both monitors would turn black and go "No Signal." From what I've seen, it will not recover. While black screened, youtube videos will still play audio but only thing I can do to fix it is restart and it's back to normal.

While that continued there were a few instances of the GPU randomly speeding up to max RPM, creating a high pitched revving sound. That seems to have stopped sometime between the 1st or 2nd "Great Taking Apart And Putting Back Together Again".

Potential Causes? CPU Heatsink: The new CPU I'm running is an i5 9600kf. No stock cooler, no integrated graphics. The heatsink I ordered for it was a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO. Found out later there's no way I can get the thing to fit in my case so I was rocking the old stock cooler from an i5 4590 instead. No plans to overclock. Just wanted to get it working. Did get it "working".

However, later I thought that was an issue so I took everything apart and fit the Cooler Master in (despite it sticking out too far) just to see if anything would change. Restarts got more frequent.

GPU: Using the same Graphics Card I had before the upgrade. A GTX 1060 3gb from EVGA. Card worked perfectly fine before but the "No Signal" problem seemed purely graphical so maybe potential culprit?

PSU: After all this time spent rebuilding and re-rebuilding, I'm guessing potentially faulty PSU? It's worth mentioning that I had shipped this PC home over winter break where it has stayed since (home for spring break now) and it did get damaged in transit. It still worked fine afaik while I was home but the case was obviously damaged, potentially other stuff (PSU?). My guess is now that there are new parts with higher energy requirements, the "damaged" PSU is not able to keep up. Double worth noting that the restarts got worse after putting the Cooler Master in (see post #4 for my lengthy response on this)

Full PC specs are here:
GPU: GTX 1060 3gb from EVGA
CPU: i5 9600kf
PSU: Thermaltake TR2 430w
Mobo: Gigabyte B36m DS3H
RAM: 2 x 8GB Crucial Ballistix
OS: Windows 10

Here's a video of the "No Signal" + GPU screaming:
NOTE: As of uploading this video, the GPU scream has stopped (afaik) and now it's just mostly forced restarts. Still think this was worth mentioning tho

Let me know if I need to provide additional details, and thanks in advance for the help

So quick update: I took everything apart and put it all back together again. Fresh install of Windows 10. Drivers, updates etc. Got PC to somewhat of a stable condition if I leave it idle on desktop or something similar.

However, the second I plugged any additional peripherials in (webcam, mic) into any of the USB slots (front and back), the PC would instantly restart. It would also instantly restart the second i created a "new game" on Stellaris. Didnt try any other games but don't think that specific game is the problem. Just seems like the PC is otherwise stable unless I do these super specific things.

So i decided to take it all apart again and this time use the new heatsink (Hyper 212 EVO) I had originally purchased but didn't fit inside the case instead of the stock cooler from my old CPU. Just finished putting everything back together for the 3rd time and now the restarts are happening significantly faster. It'll boot to windows login screen, maybe give me enough time to put the password in, then just restart. Won't last any longer than that no matter what I do. Tried reseating GPU, RAM, individual sticks of RAM at a time etc and still nothing.

Guess the good news is the GPU fan screaming stopped. Now it's just the nonstop restarts. My guess is still a bad PSU since new heatsink probably consumes more energy(?) but I'm all ears, wanna get this figured out.

Another update:

I put the old components back together (Motherboard, CPU and RAM) with the same GPU and PSU (since I don't have spares) and when powering up, the fans start spinning then a few seconds later it shuts off. Doesn't even get to BIOS screen.

It's possible I messed something up when putting the old parts together. I did some troubleshooting by starting with just CPU, then RAM etc. And it seemed like CPU was the issue. Took it apart, noticed 2 bent pins and straightened them out. Looked perfect, put it back together, powered up, still wont get to BIOS.

I put the new parts back together with the same GPU and PSU and it booted fine. Tbh I don't know what this tells me past "new parts still boom, old parts now extra boom". Now I'm starting to think the PSU isn't actually an issue(?). Or maybe I never really got to confirm since old parts wouldn't post.

I'm completely stumped at this point so I'm all ears
