partiotion harddrive cant acess

Before I installed xp i partioned 40gig of hardrive space. I continued and finished installing xp. now i cant acess it, it does not even show up on the screen as a drive even though i am missing the 40gigs.
is there a way i can "find" my partion or, I really dont need the partion i was just messing around Is there a way besides reinstalling where i can get it all back?
