Partition Hard Drive for Ubuntu

I saw an installation video and in the video one step was choosing how to install Ubuntu. The choices were to Run Alongside Current OS, Clean Install, and Customize.
I already have Windows 7 and so my choice would be to Run Alongside Current OS. If I choose that I will chose how much space to give Ubuntu etc etc.
My question is: in the future if a partition were to get damaged would it pass on to other partitions? Say the partition with Ubuntu was somehow damaged, would it affect my Windows partition?

A partition is like a separate hdd. So no it shouldnt affect the windows partition. Unless the whole hdd stuffs up or something

Only thing with Linux sometimes it can screw things up if you decide to remove it
