Hey all,
I'm trying to recover a 1tb hard drive. I've done this a few times (I seem to have terrible luck with hard drives) so I'm not a total noob with this kind of thing. It was actually backed up till about 1 week ago (I had to reuse the backup for something else and I didn't check the original drive first - doh).
It's a WD Green drive from an external, which I took out of the enclosure because the USB port broke. I currently have it in a USB dock. It hasn't been used for a while but I really need some files off it.
So here's the problem. It's showing as not initialized and unallocated. It's also showing as a 2TB drive even though it's supposed to be 1TB. I've tried the usual suspects (Easeus Data Recover finds no files after a 10 hour search, currently running the MiniTool Partition Recovery Wizard but I'm not hopeful - the last time I did this it was pretty quick, but it's taken a couple of hours and still shows 0%).
DMDE also shows a Cyclic Redundancy Check error.
So are there any data recovery experts out there? I'm starting to think I'm spending a lot of time on a hopeless cause.
Thanks!
Edit: So I just found a post regarding an external Seagate drive but I think it might be a similar issue:
"Seagate's 3TB external drives are configured with 4KB sector sizes. When you remove such a drive from its enclosure and install it inside your PC, you expose its native 512e sector size, rendering the 4KB file system inaccessible (ie "RAW"). If you now "fix" this file system using TestDisk, you only make things much worse."
