have recently formatted my pc and on the partition bit there were 3 options . partition1 which was a small FAT file . partition2 which was C and was a system rest file(100mb) and then a big 148gb of un partitioned space .

i chose this and its calling it the D driver and now when im putting all the drivers and stuff on it is running out of space . what do i do . was i meant to delete the C partition ?

Hey there, gaz141.

Your C: drive was 100MB? The 100MB partition you are referring to is either system reserved or recovery partition of some sort and it could not have been your C: drive. Would you please post a screenshot of what you see in Disk Management in case I haven't understood you correctly? Here's how to do that: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/faq/id-2176231/guide-posting-screenshot-forum.html.

Basically if everything is messed up, perhaps it would be a better idea to make a fresh install on a fully formatted hard drive while you're still in the process of installing drivers and other programs, so that you don't have to do that again afterwards.

On the other hand, if you don't have anything valuable on that D: drive just open Disk Management right click and select "delete volume", then right click again, but this time on your C: drive and select "extend volume". Just follow the steps of the wizard and you should be able to extend your C: drive with those 148GB of unallocated space.

Hope that helps.

hey thanks for replying so quickly Boogieman_WD . i have attached a link below

this is the screen im faced with when im formatting my machine. i end up picking the un partioned space which then makes a sort of d drive and everything i install such as drivers and such just end up maxing out the C drive. again see below

dont know whether i need to delete the system rese file or not.

If this is a brand new install, start over.
Delete ALL existing partitions.
Then create a new partition in the whole space.
Let Windows create what it needs after that.

I agree, just go with a fresh install, you have nothing to lose except a 30minutes or so.
On the other hand you could try to merge those partitions with a 3rd party partition management tool, but this is not the best way to go in this situation, especially since this was a fresh install and you can do it again with properly created partitions. :)
