I am thinking to have 2 partitions in my D: drive.

Partition 1: With my files.
Partition 2:
With windows installed so i can boot it when i get a BSOD on my C drive, rendering the PC useless.
And to access my D drive files untill i solve the BSOD on the C drive.

Can i partition the D drive with existing files in it without loosing them?
If not safe, i will wait to get an external HD to copy the files to!

PS: Tried a few times creating a portable Win8 with WinToUSB, on a 32GB FlashDrive, but it threw an error while creating it. Surely because it needs around 64GB right?

Better to use two separate drives, with a third one for backups.

From what you are asking it's almost like you want to have a dual boot system not just two partitions one with the OS the other with your files. Is that what you want? Two OS options when you start the system? If that is the case, then yes, you can have two partitions on the same drive then boot into the second one if you need to. I would not partition the drive with existing data without having a full backup though.

Sorry the late reply. For some reason i didn't get notified on my email.

Yes 2 separate physical drives. That's what i have!
Windows in 1; Linux in another.

For backup checking about using Cloud.
