Hey all. I have a question. Maybe someone can help. I have a lot of partitions on my HDD. I would like to maybe clean them up. I know I need one for the recovery incase something happens to my OS. Can I do this? What would I need to do? My laptop did not come with a Windows 8 disc. If possible I would like to install Ubuntu alongside Windows also.

Thank you so much for your help. :)

lol are you Anthony Rousek? Do you know anything about those partitions i have? they all came and I don't know if I need any of them.

I don't know which i can get rid of. I don't know If i need to re-install windows in order to create allocated space for ubuntu.

Partitions on a prebuilt can be tricky. It's hard to say which of those sub- 1GB partitions in your screencap is truly needed.
The 12.6GB is the full system recovery. Obviously, the 297 is the rest of the drive.

The other little ones. Unsure.

And don't bump, please. We're out here thinking, having dinner, sleeping, etc....

sorry. i didnt know. I guess I should have read the rules. Thanks for the reply though.

(I bumped because secretly I just learned what it means when people do that and I wanted to try it for the first time lol :x)

Those other partitions are big enough to worry about IMO. (In My Opinion) LoL

First issue I would address is: how are you expected to reinstall win8 should your hdd die?
... I would be on the phone with whoever made the laptop if I cant find the disk creation utility to make recovery disks.

Your next issue is in learning how to install Ubuntu to an EFI system. its not straight forward anymore: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEFI

to install Ubuntu, shrink the main partition and install to the new space.

Good luck

lol I know what IMO means but not EFI haha. I think I know how to install ubuntu but it doesnt give me to option to install along side windows. Thanks for you input. Maybe I'll call them and get info in the partitions.

And if I shrink the partiton wont it format my hdd?
