So with the pascal announcement less than a month away now and Nvidias possible rush to beat AMD to market with this release. I was just curious, as someone who is currently holding off on a build for this "performance Leap" are there any other big changes expected that will work in conjunction with it? I had read in another thread that a new chipset may be required to facilitate its increased performance.

Solution
okay people need to stop repeating 10x. It has nothing to do with actual performance

Secondly, the flagship cards wont be released until the VERY end of this year at earliest, which is when HBM 2 will be produced in quantities sufficient to make them.
First of all, I would take any "rumor" of Pascal's first GPU release this year being next month (likely the 980 replacement based on previous release history from Nvidia in card tiers). At best it will be mid-late summer. Here's one of the better known sources of the rumor of release for May. I wouldn't hold my breath for a variety of reasons, including memory manufacturing cycles from Micron for GDDR5x...which they are only just now starting to ramp up production of.

Nobody knows what specifically this new generation will take advantage of. Anything until tech websites get their hands on one and actually release the review in accordance with their NDA is just pure conjecture and speculation (like claims of DX12 and not working well with asynchronous computing).

The high end 980Ti replacement likely will be next year in release and may use the much faster HBM2 memory which is a ways from mass production. But again, everything is speculation for now. All we can do is try and connect some dots...like GDDR5x memory production timetables.

Not to contradict you because I posted this thread looking for info, of which you seem to have substantially more than I about nvidia and their release behaviour. But several sources have said this new platform will be 10X times what maxwell is. The video game star citizen has stated that DX12 will be required and HT also. Its release is coming up soon. the release is so close (or supposedly so) that I don't want want to be a 980TI and have it be dead tech in the matter of a month and a half.
