Passport is connected but directory not valid:

My passport was working fine. Now it shows to be connected as a drive but is not visible in the file explorer leaving no access to files. I have attempted to access files in various applications from the list of "recient" files but I reieve a messabe that the directory is not valid.

When connected the passport is now making a faint electronic beeping noise that it has never made be for. Is there hope and if so how can I access the files?

It may just need a drive letter allocating to it: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/change-add-remove-drive-letter#1TC=windows-7
